Name: Bard
Gender: Stallion
Age (yr 2): 3
Region: West
Physical Appearance: He stands 17hh. His overall conformation is compact yet refined. His face is open and expressive, with large, innocent-looking eyes and somewhat long, inward-curving ears. He has a long, arched neck, well-defined withers, and sloping shoulders. His back is short, and he has powerfully muscled hindquarters with a high-set tail. Songbird's coat is a deep, rich gold color with dark chocolate points. His mane and tail are a light milk chocolate color with light frosting. They are unusually long, hanging to his knees and dragging along the ground respectively. His skin is pink with dark purples freckles. Songbird's eyes are bright amber with a slight green undertone. His darkly, vaguely brownish hooves are hidden beneath heavy feathering. (Friesian x Marwari x Morgan x American Paint)
Personality: You won't know how exactly Bard got his name until you hear him sing. The stallion has a beautiful, clear voice, though not as high or as sweet as a songbird's. It is because of this talent that his former masters allowed him to act as he does. Songbird treats all horses as his equal, usually addressing them by name if he knows it. His body language is easy and confident, lacking the submissiveness of the common slave. He is generally willing to do as he is asked, though he may protest if he finds the task unagreeable and will sometimes suggest alternatives.
History: Bard's dam, Bluejay, had been born into slavery, as had most of her ancestors. She was freed when a Westerner named Shae poisoned her master and took her home with her. In thanks, she sang for Shae and her herd. When Bluejay gave birth to a colt, the son of her former master, Shae took him as one of the herd's slaves, albeit a special one. She hoped that the colt would sing for them as his mother did, and that being given certain freedoms would encourage him to do so. She allowed Bluejay to teach him to sing. The colt had inherited his mother's skill, and often sung with her at celebrations. Unfortunately, Shae was taken by wolves on a visit to Homeless Landing. The mare who took her place, one of her younger daughters, attempted to court Bard. When he rejected her advances, saying that it would be wrong for a master to take a slave to mate, she kicked him out of the herd.
