Personality: Artemis has zero self confidence. It is due to her odd color and other horses treating her like and outsider all of her life because if it. She's not a fighter and if given the chance will run. She has the build to be a distance runner, being tall and well muscled but lean. She can out run almost any other horses she comes up against. But if she is corned she can fight. She is tall, giving her the upper hand in fights with shorter horses. She is quick and can dodge attack well. But she doesn't have much mass because of her lean body and can be pushed around by heavier opponents. She is very shy and not so willing to be the first to speak up. She is a dreamer, and hopeful in finding the East where she was told horses lived in peace. Both genders living together equally.
Artemis is all heart. She loves deeply and completely. If you are truthful, kind and honest she will be the most loyal friend or mate. She has no enemy but southern stallions. She is very forgiving to others and even those who taunted her as a foal and young mare. She wants to be a mother and raise healthy and strong foals. She is a lost angel in a world of hate and demons. At least she thinks of it that way. Maybe she is too kind or too forgiving but that is just who she is. She wants nothing but her freedom and a peaceful place to be a mother and grandmother. She is not perfect, but if there were to be an example, she is it. The only question is, where will her fate take her?
History: Artemis' story is one of rejection and hurt. She was born in the West to a controlling second in command. But when the lead mare saw the strange color and odd markings of the young Artemis she band the mare from coming back to the herd until she had killed or weaned the unusual and unwanted filly. Her mother decided to lived alone until Artemis was weaned then left her filly lost and afraid. Artemis wandered until a stallion found her and took her in. Little did she know she had wandered right into the South. All the other mares looked at her as if she were a sickness and the colts would laugh at her and beat her. She didn't know why her coloring made her an outsider. When she came of age the stallion that had found her when she was just a baby force bred her. She gave birth to twins, one was stillborn the other a small and weak filly. When Artemis returned home with the foals the lead was so angry with her he beat Artemis and her newborn. The filly was killed and Artemis was left for dead with broken ribs and a gash in her neck.
Artemis survived her injuries but was heart broken by the loss of her foals and being rejected by everyone she came across. She was left with a scar that ran from her right ear down to her shoulder on the same side and damage done to her uterus from the repetitive beating. She didn't know if she would ever carry another foal but she knew she would never let another Southern stallion take her again. She had heard from one of the slaves that there was another land where horses lived free and in peace so she set out to find it. She could only hope that the horses there wouldn't turn her away because of her rare color.
