Name: Brienne
Gender: Mare
Age (yr 2): 7
Region: Wanderer
Physical Appearance: The first thing that people tend to note about Brienne is her immense size. Though not purebred, the mare is of pure draft ancestry. This has granted her the gifts of immense height and powerful build. She stands nineteen point one hands at the withers, well above most stallions in the Valley. Her head is large, with a straight profile and a proud, square, shaggy jawline. In the winter it almost looks like she has grown a beard. Her neck is long and muscular with an almost stallion-like arch to it. Her chest is deep and broad. Her withers are prominent and her shoulders sloping. She has a short, strong back, connected to a pair of powerful hindquarters with a long, level croup and a low set tail. Her frame is coarse-boned. Brienne's base coat is a pale golden color, marked by inky black stockings on her legs and a snip on her nose. Her mane and tail are cream, highlighted by dark gold, chocolate brown, and white. Her pale gray hooves are veiled by a thick layer of a feathering. Her coat is peppered with small scars, but she has yet to receive a significant one.
Personality: Honorable to a fault, Brienne will do everything she can to keep her promises and do the right thing. The mare's pride is great. Retaliation to insults is swift and brutal. She despises cowards and turncoats with a passion. No matter what side they are on, she will take on the responsibility of punishing them. Brienne is brave almost to the point of being suicidal. No matter the foe, she will face them head on, and will not stop fighting until one of them is dead (or unconscious; she sees no honor in killing someone who is not awake to feel it.) She takes pride in the fact that she has maintained her virginity for so long, as most mares are bred in their first heat. Like her mother before her, Brienne has vowed to refuse all stallions until she meets one that can best her in battle.
History: Brienne is descended from a long line of so-called 'warrior mares.' They have all been mares that lived and fought like stallions, breeding only when they found a mate that could defeat them. Her own mother, Bridgette, had remained childless until her mere days before her eleventh birthday. The stallion that finally took her was an Easterner by the name of Rhos. The pair had two foals together: Hannibal, a colt who took after his mother, and Brienne, who took after her sire. Rhos took ill and died a few months after Brienne was born. Bridgette followed when the filly was eight months old, too brokenhearted to go on. Rhos, then six years old, took Brienne and raised her as if she were his daughter. It is from him that much of her attitude comes from; he did his best to make her into the mare their dam would have wanted her to be. They parted ways when Brienne was five. The two of them still meet up from time to time, occasionally travelling together.
