Niacin dragged Helena into the land. He hadn't heard much of this stallion, but he just wanted her to be someone else's problem. Devin had introduced himself the other day. He told Niacin that he worked mares the the bone and only bread them when he felt like it. He wasn't out for a big herd, just beautiful lands. Where he was the land looked pretty clean, but Niacin was sure there were other places that were filthy. He threw Helena on the ground, not looking for the foal. He didn't care what happened to that worthless waste of space. He sent out a call to Devin. He approached them quickly. I wanted to gift you this mare. I bred her and she gave me a blind foal. I will not stand for that in my herd. You told me you didn't care about foals, just wanted workers. Here is one. You could probably put her son to work also. He nodded as Devin agreed to take them. He turned and left the land without another glance.

He finished checking his borders when he heard a call. It sounded angry. He hurried to the sound and found Niacin with a mare on the ground. Did he figure out Devin's secret? If he did though he wasn't likely to bring a mare along. Devin decided to let Niacin speak first so he didn't dig a hole for himself. Niacin was giving this mare to him. She gave him blind foal. This mare was lucky. She got to escape the grasp of Niacin with only one foal. Devin put a look of disgust on his face. He made Niacin believe it was disgust of the foal instead of Niacin. She will be put to work immediately thank you. Niacin nodded and quickly left the land. Devin replaced the look on his face that was the norm. It was a look of compassion. He quickly bent down in front of the mare. I know what you heard about me from Niacin, but don't believe it. I had to lie to him in order to survive on these lands. I am actually a protector. I try to save mares from stallions like him. I have been trying to find mares who want my help. You do not have to work, you do not have to carry any foals. You only have to rest and watch your foal grow up while you are here. I will not force you to stay here, but this could be your home how ever long you need it. I know I'm not making much sense, but please believe me. He looked around for the foal, but didn't immediately see it. Where is your foal? He was worried. A blind foal could easily lose its way in this big world. He would go after it since the mother wasn't in much shape to search for her child.

Helena hadn't realized how tired she was until Niacin dragged her here. She was on the verge of collapsing when Niacin threw her down. She didn't bother to get up she just laid there waiting for the next demon to take her up. Maybe he would kill her foal or just leave him to wander until he was killed. Helena had felt her foal at her side until they had entered the new land. That's when she couldn't hear or see the colt. But She was too tired to move. Her body screamed at her to sleep. Vulcan had been her very first foal, she had been sick throughout and she was still feeling slightly ill. She could hear another stallion coming but she didn't bother to look up. She didn't care what he looked like he was still a southern stallion. He would be just like Niacin or worse.
Helena sighed when the father of her foal left her. But by then the other stallion was there. She was starting to think she would never be free again. When she heard the stallions voice she raised her head and looked at him. ears pinned back and eyed wild with hate. But as he spoke her look softened a little. He said he had lied to Niacin, well if he had he could be lieing to her now. She didn't respond to him, she looked around for her foal but didn't see him. Her heart broke he was gone, maybe Niacin had seen him on the way out and had killed him. Helena didn't know. She tried to stand but her pillars failed each time. After a few attempts she gave up and looked into the eyes of the stallion standing over her. How can I trust you? You are neighbors with the bastard who raped me and you pretend to be friends with him! You say you lie to Niacin but how can I know you don't lie to me! That's when she broke, she laid her head down tears streaming from her eyes. Vulcan He had tried to stay as close to his mother as he could , but after a long time he stumbled and fell. He got back to his hooves and ran toward the fading sound of his mother but ran right into something very hard. Laying there he raised his wobbly head, it hurt now and he felt something warm and wet running down his forehead. M-momma? m-m-momma! He called but no reply came to him. He curled up as tight as he could his white and bay sabino pelt standing out in the browns and greens of the landscape around him. The blood slowly running down his head staining his white face. Vulcan, weak and alone whimpered until only a moment later, he was sound asleep...

DEVIN This mare was in bad shape. She couldn't stand. If Devin was the fighting type and he wasn't so small he would chase after Niacin and kill him. He couldn't do that though. The mare finally looked at him and after attempting to stand up she yelled at him. He knew it wouldn't be easy to get her to trust him, but he would take his time to do it. If she wanted to leave after she was healed then he would lead her out of the South and take her to the East. Right now though his priority was the foal. I know you don't trust me, but I'm going to get your foal. I will be back with him I promise. What is his name? He would not come back until he found her baby.
